Assignment 5: Personal Project

For this assignment I wanted highlight all businesses that have closed over the last couple of years where I live. First of all I had a wander around town to look at places that have closed down and other things connected with a recession, this was without my camera. Over the next day or so I planned a route in my head and had a plan of what photo I wanted to take. Then I took my camera with me and walked around town paying attention to how I would take the photos. I am happy with the results I think and hope my photos communicate my theme clearly.

Exercise 24: Sharpening for Print

For this exercise I sharpened a number of photo for print. I did three versions of sharpening to different degrees.
I have never sharpened an image. So I needed to practise a good few times. This is a good photo to sharpen, because there is a lot of edge detail.

 Unsharpened Photo

1st Sharpened  Photo
I only sharpened this photo a little. There seems to be not much difference between screen and the printed version.
Sharpening setting:
Amount 78
Radius 0.6
Threshold 10

2nd Sharpened Photo
This photo has been sharpened a lot more than the first  photo. You could see it more in the printed version then in the first photo.
Sharpening setting:
Amount 105
Radius 2
Threshold 20

3rd Sharpened Photo
I think this photo is over sharpened. I think the sharpening is about right in the first photo.
sharpening settings:
Amount 150
Radius 3.6
threshold 30

Enhanced Photo
To lighten the face I first selected the face with the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop. Then I increased brightness and decreased the contrast a little. For the eyes I increased  the saturation, brightness and hue a little, this was to lighten the eye a bit.
