Exercise 6: Highlight Clipping

I took 5 photos of a contrasty scene, with the highlight clipping warning set on my camera. I first took a few photos to find out where the highlight clipping started in the photo.

1st photo

 

F/7.1,  1/125sec.

There was a little highlight clipping in the clouds at the top of the photo.

 F/6.3, 1/125 sec.

For this photo I increased the exposure by one f stop. There was a much wider area of highlight in the clouds.

F/8, 1/125 sec.

I decreased the exposure by two f stops.There was about three little spots of highlight clipping in the clouds. This was only visible in my image editing software and I really had to zoom in on the photo to see it.

 F9, 1/125 sec.

The exposure on these last two photos where decreased by one f stop. There was no highlight clipping in these photos, which was to be expected.
